Creating a New Asset in Snipe-IT

This article will show you how to create a new asset in Snipe-IT.

1. From the "All Assets" page select "Create New" in the top right corner.

   

2. A new page will appear with the ITAM number auto filling to the next ITAM number. For "Company" select "Puffing Billy Railway Board". Select the model of the device you are adding, if the model is not there you will need to make a new asset model. Enter any other relevant information with the default location being where the device will mostly reside.

   

3. Under "optional information" in the "Asset Name" field is where you will name your device (PBRB.......). The PBR naming convention applies, refer bookstack article: https://bookstack.pbr.org.au/books/asset-creation/page/device-naming-convention
4. Under the "Order related Information" is where you can enter information of the purchase order number, price, and EOL dates. This information can be found on an invoice provided by the IT manager.

   

Creating a New Asset Model in Snipe-IT

This article will show you how to create an asset model in Snipe-IT

 

1. On the left in the navigation panel select settings > asset models.

   

2. Select "Create New" in the top right hand corner.

   

3. For this example i will be using a Zebra ZD421 ticket printer. The fieldset field you can choose what your device is (laptop, desktop, server), this auto populates some information that will be the same for all devices of that type such as risk rating. 4. The asset model will now be available to select when creating a new asset.

Syncing New Users into Snipe-IT

If you have user you need to check a device out to but are not showing up in Snipe-IT they may be a new user and you will need to manually do a sync with active directory.

 

1. In Snipe-IT, head to the navigation bar on the left hand side and select "People".

   

2. Select "LDAP Sync" in the top right corner.

   

3. Select "Synchronise"

   

4. Once successful it will look like this:

   

5. You can now checkout a device to that user.
