How to configure a GeoTab RFID Scanner to scan Generic NFC Tags.

  1. Open MyGeoTab
  2. Go to Assets > Vehicle > Device & Settings
  3. Enable Driver ID reminder

  4. Open Advanced settings
  5. Add Custom Parameter
    Name can be whaever

  6. Save.

    This can take upwards of a coupld hours to update to the reader. You will be able to scan any NFC tag when it starts working, the reader will beep confirming the read.. If it is not working generic nfc tags will not make a noise when scanning. 

How to add Gneric NFC tag to a user.

  1. Get an NFC scanner app on phone like TagInfo
  2. Full Scan your NFC Tag.

  3. you should see an ID code in a hexi-format. Exmaple above is 04:4C:50:0A:BD:1D:90, strip colons from this id to create 044C500ABD1D90


  4. Convert this Hexadecimal to Decimal value = 1209806568103312
  5. Open Geotab > People > Users and Drivers > Person > Open Driver Tab
  6. Add Custom NFC > Click Save.

  7. This may take a little bit to be attached to the user. 

  8. When the user taps to login inside the vehicle, it wont update in Geotab until the device communicates. This can take 5-40 minutes, depending if the car is idle etc. 

When the user turns the vehicle off it will log them out, they will need to tap on EVERY time they get into a vehicle.
