Bad Image Error (VCLibs)
Bad Image Error (VCLibs)
This article will show you how to fix the issue when the "Bad Image" error appears.
- Open CMD as admin in the local PC.
- Type command:
cd /d C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\
- Next command: "dir" to open the directory.
- Scroll down to find the file that is in the error message. In this case it is the VCLibs files.
- The next command will be "ren Microsoft.VCLibs.140.00.UWPDesktop_14.0.30704.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.OLD" This will rename the file. This must be done with all the files that are displaying as an error in the "bad image" errors. Make sure to name them something different every time as no name can be the same.
- Once all the problem files have been renamed, restart the PC.
- Once restarted open Microsoft Store. (This may take a minute). Microsoft store will search for the correct name of the VCLib files we changed and will not be able to find them, this will force MS store to re-install them. You will now be able to open MS apps such as snipping tool and photos etc.
